This facilitation is for any group or organization that needs to bond more, laugh more, relax together and learn how to work as a team – from corporates to class rooms, adults to children’s playshops. This is something that I’ve done a lot of in collaboration with Drum Café or on my own at schools like Constantia Waldorf, The American international school of Cape Town and various orphanages in a collaboration with a Swedish cultural initiative headed by the Novalis Ubuntu institute.
What I ask you to do is to let go, for a while, your deadlines, schedules and worries. By being in the moment with making simple sounds, we will make music. I will demonstrate the possible options first, showing you different sounds that can be made with voice, crack a few jokes, do some impersonations and ,we laugh together and break the ice. Some examples of sounds we can use to make music with , are ; imitating instruments, animals and creating simple rhythms with plastic pipes where everyone plays the role of an instrument as a member of the “band”, as we create a “tune” together. We stand in a circle and have fun together !
You will learn more about how to listen to each other, accommodate each other in teamwork and learn more about having fun while making music. The process is suitable for any level of musicianship and everyone is surprised at how easy it is and how they 'always had it in them’. The emphasis is on becoming playful, childlike and spontaneous....
Once the music is ‘cooking’, various soloists are invited to shine out and take charge –an opportunity for people who are natural leaders , to become ‘conductors’ and will step up and show their friends/colleagues their rythymic skills and/or make them do silly things. Laughter and a sense of unity, from having had a shared experience is the inevitable result.
